Elizabeth J. White!
About the Book
Below are a few lines from the first three chapters of the book.
Chapter 1: Arizona Here I Come: Or Should I Go to El Paso?
Elizabeth J. White had always been a hardworking and resilient woman. Life in Texas and many Southern states presented numerous challenges and difficulties for African Americans and people of color during the pre-Civil Rights years. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was leading the charge for change on the national front, while Elizabeth's family which is the 'Jimmerson family', was persevering in Texas.
Chapter 2: Not What I Had Expected
Elizabeth had arrived in Phoenix with a heart full of hope and a mind filled with dreams. The promise of a place to stay and a partnership in a thriving business had been the beacon that guided her journey. But the reality was far from the rosy picture painted by the conversations she had shared with her brother, Floyd, in the months before her arrival.
Chapter 3: I Have No Choice – This Has To Work
Elizabeth J. White never had a dream of owning her restaurant. But she got into this business with the opportunity presented itself and with much thought, prayer, and faith. Despite the challenges and hardships she faced as a woman she kept her faith in God and worked hard to build this café as this was the only way for her!
Introduction of Elizabeth
Elizabeth J. White
Elizabeth J. White was born to the union of Jesse J. and Lizzie Jones Jimmerson on a cloudy overcast day on February 20, 1923, in Oeanville, Texas, a stone’s throw (or as they say in that part of the country) a short chunk from Temple, where she grew up.
Elizabeth was the last girl and third youngest of 12 siblings. Early life was spent holding on to her mother’s apron string and often trying to tag along with her older siblings as they would spend endless hours down at the little creek that was just off to the side of their humble home.
